Antonio Leto is an italian butoh dancer and a composer based in his birthplace Palermo where he dedicates his life to his family and to butoh dance as a way of research and self-development.
He took part to some Sayoko Onishi's choreographies as a solo performer and collaborated to the creation of some of her solos as a composer and assistant director. He collaborates with butoh dancers and artists coming from various disciplines, giving life to extemporary performances of contemporary theater interacting with installations, artificial soundscapes and urban contexts. He also composed music for short movies, dance and shadow theater for children taking part to many national and international festival. He kept in touch with butoh during a workshop at “Teatro delle Radici”, directed by Cristina Castrillo and Bruna Gusberti in Lugano (Switzerland) and focused on physical theater, where he attended a lesson/performance by Margit Huber about butoh history. Some years after in 2006 he achieved the European Diploma of Butoh at “The International Academy of Butoh Dance of Palermo” founded by Sayoko Onishi in collaboration with Yoshito Ohno and in the same year he presented a PhD thesis about the acoustics behaviour of greek ancient theaters. Since 2007 he keeps on studying butoh taking part to the organization of workshops of “The International Academy of Butoh Dance”, conducted by the Master Sayoko Onishi and attending other workshops with internationally renowned Masters (Yoshito Ohno, Ken Mai, Marie Gabrielle Rotie, Henriette Heinrichs,Giovanna Amarù, Michele Abbondanza). Since 2013 he started teaching butoh in collaboration with Anna Costantino in a regular course named Giga Butoh – The Butoh of Self. He is an active member of CID - Internationale Dance Council of UNESCO.
