with (Roelant Koper) and Sonja (Hilde Elbers) Friday and Saturday - August 22 and 23 - 8 PM - Suggested Donation: $10 We work from the two main characters of Dostojevski’s Crime and Punishment, that tells the story of Raskolnikov, a young student who murdered two women. Raskolnikov is a nihilist, he doesn’t believe in anything. He divides himself off of the rest of the world by the crime he has committed, untill Sonja, a young prostitute enters his world. Her love and believe brings Raskolnikov back to life again.
He confesses his sin to her.
- We will not tell the anecdotic story, but explore the two characters through our work.
- We want to research the themes of isolation (Raskolnikov isolates him from the rest of the world by what he has done) and of contact (Sonja who is trying to reach Raskolnikov)
- Isolation as in living inside of your head and making contact, as in coming back into contact with your body.
Question: What happens if you divide yourself off of the rest of the world? What happens exactly? And what happens with time?
What happens if a person commits a sin? Does he feel the need to be forgiven?
Spoken languages will be a mixture of Dutch and English
