After the first successful edition, that involved more than 90 artists and professionals from all over the world, the Kernel Festival is back, for the second time in Desio at Villa Tittoni Traversi.
The event, scheduled from June 29th to July 1st 2012, is intended as a platform of experimentation around the contemporary art languages, particularly focused on digital and technological applied research.

Kernel Festival launches an international open call addressed to young talents under 35, with the intent of giving them exposure alongside established artists during the three-day event.
The Call's deadline is April 30th 2012.

Participation in the competition is free. The artists are encouraged to submit a proposal in one of the four sections of the Festival:
Electronic Music, Audiovisual Mapping, Interactive & Digital Art, Temporary Architecture.

The ELECTRONIC MUSIC Call is open to producers, musicians and bands proposing any kind of electronic music projects and is addressed to artists performing in the form of a live set. The selected artists will perform for 30/45 minutes during one of the days of the Festival, alternating with international guests.

The AUDIOVISUAL MAPPING section is addressed to artists from different fields of research and background, submitting proposals in one of the categories below:
- LIVE performance (20 minutes max)
- SHORT FILM: closed audiovisual clips (7 to 10 minutes long)
- VJING: visual accompaniment to the concerts and DJ sets taking place on the Festival main stage. (about 40 minutes)
- PUBLIC INTERACTION: performances that involve the public in actions defining the audiovisual solutions in real-time. (about 10 minutes)


The INTERACTIVE & DIGITAL ART Call is directed to artists engaged in exploring "digital media" and interaction systems associated with technological expressive devices. The call welcomes works involving an artistic research on new forms of visual, digital and computer science, "born digital" works, software art, robotics, net art, sound art, and also kinetic art, electronics, generative art, interactive installations, video installations.

The TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE section aims at contributing to the debate on the new dynamics of urban transformation affecting the city and the territory of Desio. The research concerns ephemeral architectural interventions, temporary and/or semi-permanent and the way these can help to give a new identity to the urban space, in particular through the introduction of elements of technological innovation, both in terms of construction and organization, and interaction with users and the context.
The call is open to students, artists, designers and architects interested in challenging their ideas about architecture, temporality and use of public space. It pertains to design proposals of urban transformation of the area located along the road on which villa Tittoni (venue of the Festival) overlooks, and new ideas for its use with the inclusion of lightweight, temporary and/or reusable structures.
The selected projects will be exhibited during the Festival, alongside the work of international designers and presented to the local Council who will assess their possible implementation in view of the Kernel Festival next edition.

Forte del successo della prima edizione, che ha coinvolto più di 90 artisti e professionisti provenienti da tutto il mondo, torna il Kernel Festival, per il secondo anno consecutivo a Desio, presso villa Tittoni Traversi.
L'evento, in programma dal 29 giugno all'1 luglio 2012, si propone come piattaforma di sperimentazione sui linguaggi dell'espressione artistica contemporanea, con particolare attenzione alla ricerca tecnologica e digitale applicata.

Kernel Festival lancia una open call internazionale indirizzata a giovani talenti under 35, a cui dare visibilità accanto ad artisti già affermati durante le tre giornate dell'evento.
La scadenza del bando è fissata per il 30 aprile 2012.

La partecipazione al bando è gratuita. Gli artisti saranno chiamati a presentare una proposta in una delle quattro sezioni del Festival:
Electronic Music, Audiovisual Mapping, Interactive & Digital Art, Temporary Architecture.

Il bando di ELECTRONIC MUSIC è rivolto a produttori, musicisti e band che propongano progetti di musica elettronica di qualsiasi stile o matrice ed è destinato ad artisti che si esprimono in forma di live set. Gli artisti selezionati avranno modo di esibirsi ciascuno per 30/45 minuti durante una delle giornate del Festival, alternandosi ad artisti di fama internazionale.

La sezione di AUDIOVISUAL MAPPING è rivolta ad artisti di diversi settori di ricerca e formazione, che presentino proposte in una delle seguenti sotto sezioni:
- performance LIVE (massimo 20 minuti)
- SHORT FILM: clip audiovisivi chiusi (tra i 7 e i 10 minuti)
- VJING: accompagnamento alle performance musicali che si alterneranno sul palco principale del Festival (circa 40 minuti)
- PUBLIC INTERACTION: performance che coinvolgano il pubblico in azioni che definiscano, in tempo reale, le soluzioni audiovisive (circa 10 minuti)

La Call di INTERACTIVE & DIGITAL ART è rivolta ad artisti impegnati nell'esplorazione "digi-mediale" e a coloro che approfondiscono sistemi di interattività legati a strumenti espressivi tecnologici. Il bando accoglie opere che implichino una ricerca artistica su nuove forme di espressione visiva, digitale e informatica, opere "born digital", software art, robotica, net art, sound art ed inoltre arte cinetica, elettronica, arte generativa, installazioni interattive, video- istallazioni.

La sezione TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE si propone di contribuire al dibattito sulle nuove dinamiche di trasformazione urbana che interessano la città e il territorio di Desio.
Il campo di indagine riguarda interventi architettonici leggeri, temporanei e/o semi-permanenti e come questi possano contribuire a ridare una nuova identità allo spazio urbano, in particolare attraverso l'introduzione di elementi di innovazione tecnologica, sia dal punto di vista costruttivo e gestionale che dell'interazione con gli utenti e il contesto.
Il bando è rivolto a studenti, artisti, designer e architetti interessati a rimettere in discussione le proprie idee sull'architettura, sulla temporaneità e sull'uso dello spazio pubblico, e riguarda proposte progettuali di trasformazione dello spazio urbano situato lungo l'asse viario su cui affaccia Villa Tittoni (sede del Festival) e nuove idee per il suo utilizzo con l'inserimento di strutture leggere, temporanee e/o riutilizzabili.
I progetti ritenuti meritevoli verranno esposti durante il festival, accanto ai lavori di progettisti internazionali e presentati all'amministrazione Comunale che ne valuterà la possibile realizzazione in vista della successiva edizione del Kernel Festival.
