During the 2nd Athens Biennial, aMAZElab presents Going Public ‘08. Port City Safari, volume that documents the sixth edition of the Going Public project, a journey through some of the most important European and Mediterranean port cities.

The colour volume, edited by Claudia Zanfi, is published by Silvana Editoriale (Milano), italian + english languages, 240 pages, with contributions by Tom Trevor, Paul Domela, Katerina Koskina, Emiliano Gandolfi, Jean Fisher, Maria Thereza Alves, Yto Barrada, Zineb Sedira, Zafos Xagoraris, others.

PortCitySafari, sixth edition of the Going Public project, takes us on a journey through some of the most important European and Mediterranean port cities. Setting off in Bristol, first stop the exhibition Port City. On Mobility and Exchange, then on the site-specific projects created for the 10°Istanbul and 1°Athens Biennials, PortCitySafari investigates the cities of Rotterdam, Tangier, Palermo, Marseille and Liverpool, which participates through researches, exhibitions and workshops organised by arts centres and universities. The project highlights various investigations into the subjects of mobility, commerce, productivity, contemporary slavery of port cities, all documented in this new volume.

To mark the end of the tour, a bilingual 240 pages colour volume has been published by Silvana Editoriale (Milano), recounting a journey through Art and port cities carried out by about 40 artists and theorists. The book documents the discussion phases, the choice of the artists, the commissions and the projects produced. It documents a reflection of such crucial themes as migration, the free market, the transformations of the port areas and their relationship with the city and its inhabitants.

This is a rare publication investigating various aspects of port cities through the eyes of artists as a method of critical research and discussion on contemporary art.
The project received the Price Cultura 2007: It has been supported by The J.F. Costopoulos Foundation, Fondazione Cassa Risparmio Modena, Arnolfini, Bristol. Cultural Office Europe.

Among the prestigious contributors to name a few, Tom Trevor (Director, Arnolfini of Bristol); Paul Domela (Director, Liverpool Biennial); Katerina Koskina (Director, Costopoulos Foundation of Athens); Emiliano Gandolfi (Curator of Venice Architecture Biennial); Jean Fisher (Professor, Middlesex University London); Yto Barrada (Artist, Tangier), Zineb Sedia (Artist, Algiers), Meschac Gaba (artist), many others.

PortCitySafari, sesta edizione del progetto Going Public, è un viaggio attraverso alcune delle principali città portuali europee e dell’area mediterranea. Partito da Bristol, con la prima tappa della mostra Port City. On Mobility and Exchange, dopo i progetti site-specific realizzati in occasione della 10° Biennale di Istanbul e della 1° Biennale di Atene, PortCitySafari ha indagato le città di Rotterdam, Tangeri, Palermo, Marsiglia, Liverpool, che hanno partecipato al progetto con iniziative espositive e di ricerca organizzate da istituzioni e università locali.

A conclusione del progetto è stato ora realizzato un volume a colori di 240 pagine, bilingue, edito da Silvana Editoriale (Milano), che racconta il viaggio nell’arte e nelle città porto compiuto da oltre 40 tra artisti e teorici. Il libro documenta le fasi di riflessione con gli artisti coinvolti a cui sono stati commissionati e prodotti progetti ad hoc; le ricerche su temi cruciali come la migrazione, il libero mercato, le trasformazioni delle zone portuali e il loro rapporto con la città ei suoi abitanti.

Si tratta del primo volume in Italia che indaga tematiche attuali relative alle città porto attraverso lo sguardo di artisti, quale strumento per un’indagine critica e una discussione sulla ricerca contemporanea.
Il progetto, sostenuto dalla Commissione Cultura della Comunità Europea, The J. F. Costopoulos Foundation, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio Modena, ha vinto il prestigioso premio “Cultura 2007”.

Tra i prestigiosi contributi, solo per citarne alcuni, Tom Trevor (direttore Arnolfini di Bristol); Paul Domela (Direttore Biennale di Liverpool); Katerina Koskina (Direttrice Fondazione Costopoulos di Atene); Emiliano Gandolfi (curatore ultima Biennale Architettura di Venezia); Jean Fisher (Docente alla Middlesex University di Londra); Yto Barrada (Artista, Tangeri), Zineb Sedira, (Artista, Algeri), e molti altri.
