London's Tate Modern will be hosting a bank holiday weekend of exhibitions, performances and other events grouped around the theme 'do it yourself', featuring work involved with and influenced by the Italian Arte Povera movement during the 1960's. Included in the series will be several sound installations by Italian composer Luigi Nono along with Reports From Utopia which will feature regular performances of his compositions made for tape and soprano during the 1960's in Milan's legendary Studio di Fonologia Musicale.
Climb/ over and explore Robert Morris’s landmark installation, first exhibited at Tate Gallery in 1971, invites visitors to physically navigate a series of sculptural and architectural elements.
Watch/ Michelangelo Pistoletto as he performs Newspaper Sphere leaving the Turbine Hall and crossing the Millenium Bridge into the streets of London
Listen/ to Bach’s St John’s Passion performed by a cellist, completing Janis Kounellis’s Untitled.
Hear/ sound installations and live performances of works by the avant-garde composer Luigi Nono whilst viewing the collection on Level 5.
Take/ part in a series of workshops and activities for families and people of all ages as House of Fairy Tales take residency outside Tate Modern by the riverside.
Experience/ 1000, a new performance work by the artist Paola Pivi, in a unique aural transformation of the Turbine Hall as an exuberant finale to the weekend.
