The Interminability and Intollerability of Any Earthly Effort
The artist aims at highlighting the moments of the creative process in which he is faced by the alternative of producing a certain artistic effect or its opposite. Also, he diverts the attention of the observer from the artifact as a product to the process of creation itself–a process of fiction and fascination, suspended by the act of making to that of seeing–and, to reach this goal, he employs constructive and deconstructive techniques.”

“For this occasion–as Paola Noè writes–Pierluigi Calignano has envisaged an organic-exhibition, structured by diverse elements and articulated in various paths.
The works of Calignano consists of sculpture-installations whose inspirations touches upon surrealistic charm, irony, utopianism, and play. His works, mostly produced by employing poor materials (wood, paper, cardboard), albeit maintaining a corporeal concreteness, evoke visionary and fairy-tales realities and, although abstracted from the practical world, subvert its rules and its rationale. The artists looks at reality to detach himself and, by modifying the objects’ function of use, re-creates the phenomenic space.
Pierluigi Calignano (Gallipoli, 1971) joined last year the Art Omi International Artists’ Residency, New York. In 2007 joined the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York and held the solo show L-RAY, curated by Marco Meneguzzo, at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, Milan. Lives and works in Milan.
