The Carriageworks has plenty of treats in store for the whole family this October half-term when Alice in Wonderland and the critically acclaimed Journey of Turtle come to Leeds.
Lewis Carol’s enchanting story Alice in Wonderland is brought to life by Rough Magic Theatre on the 25th October in a re-telling of the classic children’s tale.
Tickets for Alice in Wonderland are proving so popular that The Carriageworks has just announced they have put on an extra performance at 3pm on the 25th October – due to the 12pm show already selling out.
Following Alice in Wonderland is Lempen Puppet Theatre’s Journey of Turtle on the 29th October - a magical and imaginative story about turtles created from myths and stories taken from around the world - for anyone aged 5-95!
Told with table top puppets, shadows, traditional story-telling and atmospheric sounds, this charming tale follows the story of a particular crazy turtle. This is a perfect half-term outing for all the family and will enchant granny and grandchild alike
Daniel Lempen, Director of Lempen Puppet Theatre, said:
“The production is inspired by the magical sound and shape of the Hang instrument - which looks like a turtle’s shell - from Bern in Switzerland.
“Turtle is like all of us, often impatient, selfish and faltering through his own mistakes. In this story we see him learning to make the important step that allows him to transform his life.”
Lempen Puppet Theatre Company was founded in 1987, and is one of Great Britain’s foremost touring companies for children. They have toured extensively over the UK, as well as Ireland, Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Greece and the Czech Republic.
Professionally trained in puppetry, mime, music, mask and sculpture, the company specialises in modern day myths that connect the imagination to real and contemporary issues.
Councillor John Procter, Executive Board Member for Leisure, said:
“The Carriageworks is the place to be this October half-term, with two magical stories that are sure to appeal to big and little kids alike.
”The Carriageworks is rapidly approaching its third birthday this November, and it’s a mark of how far the theatre has come that these two shows will be packed to the rafters with laughter and excitement.”
Tickets for both shows are available at the box office on Millennium Square, or by calling 0113 224 3801. For more information or to book online visit www.carriageworkstheatre.org.uk.
