Cabaret meets circus at The Carriageworks. With extreme props, ludicrous tasks and unbridled live music, An Evening of Instability presents expert acrobatic and aerial movement fused with the nuances and subtleties of dance. This is 21st Century circus, brought to you with a sculptor’s eye.
FLYING CIRCUS WINGS ITS WAY TO LEEDS on 30th September
It may not be the legendary Monty Python sketches, but it’s still a low-flying circus as some of the best aerial and acrobatic talents in theatre visit The Carriageworks on 30 September.
An Evening of Instability combines 21st century circus techniques, dance choreography and live music – presented in a format where no two performances will be identical.
Created by Stumble danceCircus’s Mish Weaver, the An Evening of Instability aims to capture the skills and flair of the performers as they push their acrobatic skills to the limit to wow the crowd.
Mish Weaver, Director of Stumble danceCircus, said:
“Physical instability is something that’s always fascinated me. A lot of people don’t realise that the body is in a permanent state of movement in the battle to stay upright. An Evening of Instability explores this theme and pushes it to the limit with some virtuoso performances from some of the best talents in acrobatics and circus.”
There’s also the chance to join in a fun workshop led by performers from Stumble danceCircus on 27 September. The workshop is designed for physical performers, dancers, actors and even musicians – with the aim of helping people work and improvise with sound.
Cllr John Procter, Executive Member for Leisure, said:
“The Carriageworks is delighted to be hosting this unique show – the first Leeds will have seen of its kind! It shows the emphasis the theatre places on creating a programme that entertains as wide an audience as possible, whilst at the same time pushing the boundaries of artistic entertainment.”
An Evening of Instability visits The Carriageworks on Tuesday 30th September, for more information on the show, the workshop or to book tickets, visit www.carriageworkstheatre.org.uk or call the box office on 0113 224 3801.
