Fondazione VOLUME! shows Stefano Cerio’s photographic works. The space in Via San Francesco di Sales hosts Chinese Fun, a project the protographer did in China in 2013. He decided to tell something about that Country through shooting the great funparks just in the precise moment in which few human presences were still there. Portraying the surreal essence of those places, he deprives them of their original meaning. These images immediately activate memory and desire. Through using the optical bench, Stefano Cerio also recovers a lost slowness really faraway from the common idea of the fun parks, so adding a further alienating element that amplifies the feeling of being betweeen reality and imagination.

From the 23d of September 2015, Fondazione VOLUME! shows Stefano Cerio’s photographic works. The space in Via San Francesco di Sales hosts Chinese Fun, a project the protographer did in China in 2013. He decided to tell something about that Country through shooting the great funparks just in the precise moment in which few human presences were still there. Portraying the surreal essence of those places, he deprives them of their original meaning. These images immediately activate memory and desire. Through using the optical bench, Stefano Cerio also recovers a lost slowness really faraway from the common idea of the fun parks, so adding a further alienating element that amplifies the feeling of being betweeen reality and imagination. Cerio looks at modernity as it was a still life. The too much great and coloured constructions so become the symbol of our modern times’ vacuity. A video projection gives further character and contrast to the exhibition: images, sounds an geometries as the consequence of metropolitan every day life. It is the first time that VOLUME! shapes its form to host a photographic project. Through architectural dialogues and games of light, the images become epiphanies that the public slowly unveils by walking along the rooms. A photographic book, published by Hatje Cantz, will accompany the exhibition.

Spazi defunzionalizzati, nati per accogliere migliaia di persone, ma svuotati di senso perché ritratti nella loro essenza surreale, dando vita ad immagini che attivano immediatamente la sfera del ricordo e del desiderio.

Spazi defunzionalizzati, nati per accogliere migliaia di persone, ma svuotati di senso perché ritratti nella loro essenza surreale, dando vita ad immagini che attivano immediatamente la sfera del ricordo e del desiderio. Attraverso l’uso del banco ottico, poi, Stefano Cerio si riappropria di una lentezza ormai perduta, e lontana dall’idea usuale che si ha dei parchi di divertimenti, aggiungendo un ulteriore elemento straniante, che amplifica la sensazione di sospensione tra reale e immaginario. Quello di Cerio è uno sguardo sulla modernità, trattata come natura morta, in cui le costruzioni fuori misura, coloratissime e rese ancora più imponenti dalla frontalità del punto di vista, diventano emblema del vuoto che caratterizza il presente. La mostra si arricchisce di un ulteriore contrasto grazie alla presenza del video che offre una visuale sulla realtà quotidiana della metropoli: immagini, suoni e geometrie generate da un flusso continuo di migliaia di persone. VOLUME! si modella per la prima volta per accogliere un progetto fotografico, attraverso dialoghi architettonici e giochi di luce trasforma le immagini in epifanie, da scoprire in un percorso che si snoda attraverso le sue stanze. La mostra è accompagnata da un libro fotografico edito da Hatje Cantz.
