Andrea Fiorino is a young Sicilian artist now based in Milan. His first personal exhibition presents the outcome of his latest artistic research: a conceptual show with an original and site-specific set-up, which won’t cease to surprise the visitors: imaginary forests and primordial woods are the fantastic background, home to ancient individuals who reminds us of a universal cosmogony, portrayed through a rich and powerful color choice.

As the curator Elisa Fusi says: “Fiorino’s project can be considered immortal, out of time, visually expressed through rounded shapes and fluid color touches. Fiorino sees the body like a gate, a wound or even a crack that can be transpassed and from which new life is created, connecting his thought directly with the words of the Old Testament and with the Creation of men.
The image shows an ever-evolving world, where everything is in constant change and is determined by the innate immortality of nature. A spiritual and harmonic paradise, now inevitably lost”.

Lost Paradise is connected to the conceptual core of Fiorino’s artistic research. The title also contextualizes the subject of each piece, ancient men who belong to a pre-historic, not-yet-civilized world, and who reside in a lost paradise.
The iconographic and thematic sources of this project are, in fact, images of the Creation of men, both in the meaning of the Old Testament, or deduced from non-Christian religious traditions, such as the oriental ones, or even from more ancient and primitive cults.
The Creation is the moment when the human being appears on Earth for the first time and, interacting with the natural world, becomes its true inhabitant, relying on nature to live and obtain nurturing and protection. In Fiorino’s paintings the natural elements (water, earth and air) are the original scenario in which men operate and live, but also symbolic entities once again met in primitive, non-western imageries, such as Totems.

Fiorino’s artistic language is powerfully expressive and relies on the communicative possibilities of color. Color itself is spread with wide and fluid brush strokes and in loud nuances. The effect is undeniably strong and incisive, reminding us of tribal masks or cave paintings from a different Age. Everything is coherent with the theme of the artist’s research: the lost paradise where men and mother Nature once co-lived in harmony and respect, not yet deteriorated by civilization and progress.

Circoloquadro is a cultural association based in Milan, dedicated to intercepting the newest and most interesting artistic trends and giving appropriate space and attention to young artists, both Italian and international. This particular curatorial perspective is what distinguishes Circoloquadro from other exhibition centers in the city, together with the educational intent of the various courses held in the space throughout the year.
In this event, the exhibition and the catalogue was curated by young curator Elisa Fusi, who had the chance to follow Fiorino’s project from the very beginning.
Circoloquadro hosts this event in order to endorse younger talents, both artists and professionals of the field, such as curators.

Andrea Fiorino was born in 1990 in Augusta (Siracusa, ) and now lives and works in Milan. After his University studies in Graphics at Brera Academy, he’s now taking painting courses for his Master’s degree. He participated to individual and collective exhibits, both in and outside of Italy.

Elisa Fusi was born in 1990 and works and studies between the city of Milan and the Brianza area. After three years of Cultural Heritage studies at Università Statale di Milano, she’s now studying Expositional Communication at Brera Academy. She personally curated individual and collective exhibitions and writes for a few art websites.

Alla sua prima personale milanese, Andrea Fiorino, giovane artista siciliano trapiantato a Milano, presenta il frutto della sua ultima ricerca: una “mostra concept” dall’allestimento inedito e site specific che non mancherà di stupire: foreste e boschi abitati da esseri antichi che rimandano ad una cosmogonia universale, raffigurati con una ricchezza di colore immaginifica e potente.

Scrive Elisa Fusi: Fiorino dà vita a un progetto immortale, espresso a livello pittorico nella circolarità delle forme e nella pennellata fluente, che vede il corpo come un portale da attraversare, una ferita-fessura da cui diparte la creazione di una nuova vita, richiamandosi al mito della creazione di Eva dalla costola di Adamo. Un mondo in continuo rinnovamento, in cui tutto si trasforma e si determina in ragione dell'immortalità che è propria della natura. Un paradiso di armonia e spiritualità, che oggi è perduto.

Lost paradise rimanda direttamente al nucleo concettuale della ricerca artistica di Fiorino e contestualizza i soggetti delle opere, uomini appartenenti ad un mondo primitivo, pre-civilizzato, all’interno di un vero e proprio paradiso perduto.
Le fonti iconografiche e tematiche delle opere sono infatti le rappresentazioni del momento della creazione, così come viene tramandata dalle Scritture, anche nella sua accezione non prettamente cristiana e quindi tratta da altri contesti religiosi come quelli orientali o addirittura precedenti, propri di una realtà pre-storica, primitiva.
Nel momento della creazione l'uomo compare per la prima volta sulla Terra e, interagendo con essa, ne diviene a tutti gli effetti abitante, poiché instaura col mondo naturale un rapporto di collaborazione e di interrelazione. Nei dipinti del giovane artista acqua, aria, terra sono gli elementi primari con cui l’uomo si trova a interagire, ma anche entità ricche di simbologie che ritornano in immagini primitive non occidentali, come il totem.

Il linguaggio di Fiorino, di grande efficacia e potenza espressiva, si avvale delle possibilità comunicative del colore, steso con pennellate fluide e in tonalità squillanti, per conferire ai suoi soggetti l'evidenza e l'immediatezza di un'immagine tribale, di una maschera oceanica o di un dipinto rupestre, coerentemente col tema a cui si riferiscono le sue opere, il paradiso perduto in cui il rapporto uomo-natura era ancora autentico e non intaccato dalla civilizzazione e dal progresso.


Circoloquadro, spazio espositivo attento a captare le tendenze artistiche più innovative, si diversifica dal panorama espositivo milanese per la volontà di dare spazio ai talenti più giovani. In questa mostra l'allestimento e i testi del catalogo sono curati da Elisa Fusi, giovane curatrice, che ha avuto modo di seguire il progetto artistico di Andrea Fiorino fin dall'esordio. È all'insegna dell'apertura ai talenti più giovani che Circoloquadro ospita questa mostra, frutto della stretta collaborazione tra artista e curatrice.
 
 
Andrea Fiorino, nato nel 1990 ad Augusta (SR), vive e lavora a Milano. Laureato in Grafica d’Arte all’Accademia di Brera, frequenta il biennio specialistico in Pittura; ha partecipato a mostre collettive e personali in Italia e all'estero.


Elisa Fusi, nata nel 1990, studia e lavora tra Milano e la Brianza. Laureata in Scienze dei Beni Culturali, attualmente frequenta il biennio di Comunicazione espositiva presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. Ha curato alcune mostre personali e collettive e scrive d’arte e culturale per alcuni portali di settore.
