For his first solo show in Los Angeles, Christopher will unveil a world of hidden meanings, symbols, and metaphors through a series of oil paintings, sculptures and mixed mediums. Representing a year and a half long process, “Vanity Bonfire” juxtaposes heavenly beauty against stark reality, creating a cohesive, multi-layered experience for the viewer. Things are not what they seem as candy coated veneers reveal dark subtle messages upon closer inspection. Christopher’s opulent visual vocabulary reaches new heights in “Vanity Bonfi re” as politically motivated soldiers disguised as rococo frosted three layer cakes with lubricated match sticks and peppermint appendages, intermingle with dripping blood cherries, sparkling dollar signs and cultured pearls plucked from a 13th century tiara. Iconographic three layered cakes, Louis XIV shoes, and Sacred Hearts form the metaphoric foundation for “Vanity Bonfi re”, which is sure to delight the senses and challenge the mind. Open to the public, the reception for “Vanity Bonfi re” will take place on Saturday, April 26 from 7 to 10pm. Sean Christopher attended the Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach, CA where he received his B.F.A. in Illustration and the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he received his M.F.A. in Drawing and Painting. He has always been deeply attracted to symbolism and employs a variety of objects to create his narratives. Christopher’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries including La Luz de Jesus, Lineage Gallery, Copro Nason, Varnish Fine Art, and Limited Addiction.
