For several decades the Netherlands were the country that ‘guided’ Europe culturally, politically and socially. This is unfortunately a thing of the past. In 2013 many initiatives in the arts sector will be for the chop. It seems to us appropriate to pay tribute now. Hollandse Bergen presents theatre from the Netherlands, with a small but good selection of theatre, and a debate.

Who are we when we feel cornered? Who are we if the other is weaker? We try to save ourselves with the phrase ‘it’s only a game’, but at that point it’s already too late... In the new work by Schwalbe, the players lose themselves in the game. Schwalbe creates theatre where the body is the starting point. The physical taken to the extreme.

In Hollandse Bergen Maatschappij Discordia will be presenting a new episode in their Stansislavski cycle. ‘A performance about undeniable differences’ is how it is described in their publicity, and they give the performance a motto inspired by Mayakovski: ‘Nature doesn’t hold a mirror to you but a magnifying glass’.
