The Literaturwerkstatt Berlin and interfilm Berlin are once again calling for entries for the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival, an biannual competition recognising the best in poetry filmmaking, now in its eighth year!
Short films based on poems can be submitted. A programme commission will decide which entries will be shown in the programme or the competition of the fourth ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival, taking place in Berlin from 9 to 12 October 2008, an international jury deciding the winners. Prizes worth a total of €10,000 will be awarded. The deadline for entries is 16 June 2008 (full entry conditions).
The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival has established itself as an inter-national forum for short films that deal with the content, aesthetics or form of poems. It gives filmmakers from around the world the opportunity to exchange ideas and develop new contacts.

Rules
1. Entry conditions: Films of up to 15 minutes in length, completed after 1 January 2005, are eligible for entry. The selection committee reserves the right in exceptional cases to admit longer films. All submissions must relate to one or several poems. The following screening formats are accepted: 35mm, Beta SP/PAL and DVD PAL in the highest resolution possible. Screening copies of films should have English subtitles.
2. Registrations: The registration deadline is 16 June 2008. Registrations must include the following materials: a completed entry form (see below), a preview video in either DVD or VHS format, a digital film still, a German or English translation of the poem/poems, a synopsis as well as a bio- and filmography of the director. All texts must be available in digital form. The mailing costs of the registration materials will be borne by the applicant. Postal submissions from abroad must carry the notice: “Temporary use. Only for cultural purposes.” This applies both to the registration materials and to the mailing of screening copies (cf. point 4). The value given on the attached pro forma invoice (to download the pro forma invoice, see below) must not exceed €19. Postal submissions with insufficient postage or with false declarations will not be accepted. Preview copies will remain in the archive of the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin and will only be returned if an express wish for such is made and the costs are borne by the applicant. 3. Selection of films: On the basis of the preview copies, the programme commission decides on the selection of film contributions for the competition as well as for all other areas of the programme. A list of the films selected can be viewed from the beginning of September 2008 at www.literaturwerkstatt.org. No enquiries concerning the selection will be answered prior to this. From mid-September, all participants will be informed by e-mail of the results of the call for entries.
4. Submission of screening copies: Screening copies of the film contributions selected must arrive at the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin by 30 September 2008 at the latest. Mailing costs to Berlin are borne by applicants. For postal submission of the screening copies, the same dispatch requirements as described in point 2 apply. Costs which arise as a result of false declarations or insufficient postage will be billed to the sender. The Literaturwerkstatt Berlin will bear the costs of return.
5. Insurance: Mailing and return of film copies is at the applicant’s risk. The screening copies are insured during the event at their print value. Any claims for compensation are to be made no later than ten days following return mailing. The place of jurisdiction is Berlin.

Reglement
1. Teilnahmebedingungen: Teilnahmeberechtigt sind Filme bis zu einer Länge von 15 Minuten, die nach dem 1. Januar 2005 fertiggestellt worden sind. Die Auswahlkommission behält sich in Ausnahmefällen vor, längere Filme zuzulassen. Alle eingereichten Filmbeiträge müssen einen Bezug zu einem oder mehreren Gedichten aufweisen. Als Vorführformate sind zugelassen: 35mm, Beta SP/PAL und DVD PAL in bestmöglicher Auflösung. Die Filme auf den Vorführkopien sollten englische Untertitel haben.
2. Anmeldung: Anmeldeschluss ist der 16. Juni 2008. Die Anmeldung muss die folgenden Unterlagen beinhalten: ein ausgefülltes Anmeldeformular (s. u.), ein Sichtungsvideo in den Formaten DVD oder VHS, ein digitales Filmfoto, eine deutsche oder englische Übersetzung des Gedichts/der Gedichte, eine Synopse sowie eine Bio- und Filmografie des Regisseurs/der Regisseurin. Alle Texte müssen in digitaler Form vorliegen. Der Versand der Anmelde-unterlagen geschieht auf Kosten des Einreichers. Sendungen aus dem Ausland müssen den Hinweis „Vorübergehende Verwendung. Nur für kulturelle Zwecke. Sendung hat keinen Handelswert.“ tragen. Dies gilt sowohl für die Anmeldeunterlagen als auch für den Versand der Vorführkopien (vgl. Punkt 4). Die Wertangabe auf der beigefügten Proforma-Rechnung (Download „Proforma Invoice“ s. u.) darf max. €19,– betragen. Bei unfreien oder falsch deklarierten Sendungen wird die Annahme verweigert. Sichtungskopien verbleiben im Archiv der Literaturwerkstatt Berlin und werden nur auf ausdrücklichen Wunsch und auf Kosten des Einreichers zurückgesandt. 3. Auswahl der Filme: Die Programmkommission entscheidet auf der Grundlage der Sichtungskopien über die Auswahl der Filmbeiträge für den Wettbewerb sowie alle weiteren Programmbereiche. Ab Anfang September 2008 kann eine Liste der ausgewählten Filme auf www.literaturwerkstatt.org eingesehen werden. Vor diesem Zeitpunkt werden keine Anfragen zur Auswahl beantwortet. Ab Mitte September 2008 werden alle Teilnehmer per E-Mail über die Resultate der Ausschreibung informiert.
4. Einsendung der Vorführkopien: Die Vorführkopien der ausgewählten Filmbeiträge müssen spätestens bis zum 30. September 2008 in der Literaturwerkstatt Berlin eintreffen. Die Kosten für die Sendung nach Berlin tragen die Einsender. Für die Einsendung der Vorführkopien gelten die Versandanweisungen wie unter Punkt 2 beschrieben. Kosten, die wegen falscher Deklaration oder durch unfreien Versand entstehen, werden dem Absender in Rechnung gestellt. Die Kosten für den Rückversand trägt die Literaturwerkstatt Berlin.
5. Versicherung: Der Hin- und Rückversand der Filmkopien erfolgt auf Gefahr des Einsenders. Die Vorführkopien sind während der Veranstaltung mit ihrem Kopierwert versichert. Etwaige Schadensersatzansprüche sind spätestens zehn Tage nach Rücksendung geltend zu machen. Gerichtsstand ist Berlin
