Dissertating/Deserting, two words, a "text-manifesto", a project, a networking operation, an exhibition and at the same time an experience and review of the Italian art-cultural scene. How have all these aspects connected and developed in sequence? How could an identity emerge from all this? On July 7, 2006, over 50 artists and 22 curators and cultural associations crowded the rooms of the Colonna Castle in Genazzano – it was the final phase of a project that had been developed over the two previous years. A text-catalogue including the multiplicity of voices of the contributors: from Dissertating/Deserting, the text-manifesto sent as an invitation to participate, to the replies and proposals submitted by the cultural associations and curators that accepted it. The book presents critical texts by Jo-Anna Isaak, Angelandreina Rorro, Carla Subrizi, Antonio Tursi, Gaia Cianfanelli, Caterina Iaquinta as well as interviews with Martina Corgnati, Emanuela De Cecco, Lisa Parola/a.titolo, Laura Barreca, Gianni Romano, Angelo Bianco made during the elaboration phase; the cultural operators’ and artists’ biographical notes and a bibliography complete the book. The book redefines the process of elaboration and development of a curatorial project so that its work method becomes at the same time tool and subject of the research.
Gaia Cianfanelli (Albano, Rome, 1980) attended the European School of Economics in Rome where she obtained a degree in Art and Heritage Management. Since 2005 she has been curator of the “TEVERETERNO” project now at its third year of development. She founded the START cultural association.
Caterina Iaquinta (Rome, 1978) A Phd in Art Science and History, she attended Università La Sapienza in Rome. She authored the project In-Between: Visual Crossings, produced for the 2005 edition of the White Night in Rome. Since 2006 she has managed the activities of the Baruchello Foundation. Since 2005 she has been a member of the START cultural association.

Come questi aspetti si sono connessi insieme e sviluppati sequenzialmente? Come è possibile che ne sia emersa un'identità? Il 7 Luglio 2006, più di cinquanta artisti e ventidue soggetti tra curatori e associazioni culturali hanno riempito le sale del Castello Colonna di Genazzano (Roma), chiudendo le fasi di un progetto durato i due anni precedenti. Un testo-catalogo che riporta la pluralità delle voci di coloro che hanno partecipato: dall'invito alla partecipazione attraverso il testo-manifesto Dissertare/Disertare, alla risposta e proposta da parte delle associazioni culturali e dei curatori coinvolti. Testi critici di: Jo-Anna Isaak, Angelandreina Rorro, Carla Subrizi, Antonio Tursi, Gaia Cianfanelli, Caterina Iaquinta. Interviste realizzate nel corso della fase progettuale a Martina Corgnati, Emanuela De Cecco, Lisa Parola/a.titolo, Laura Barreca, Gianni Romano, Angelo Bianco; biografie dei soggetti culturali coinvolti, degli artisti invitati e una bibliografia ragionata. Il libro ridefinisce così i parametri attraverso cui nasce e si sviluppa un progetto curatoriale, in cui la metodologia adottata si è fatta strumento e contenuto della ricerca.
Gaia Cianfanelli (Albano, RM, 1980) Si è laureata in Art and Heritage Management alla European School of Economics di Roma. Dal 2005 è curatrice del progetto “TEVERETERNO” di cui sono stati realizzati i primi due anni di programmazione. Ha fondato l’Associazione culturale START.
Caterina Iaquinta (Roma, 1978) Laureata in Scienze-Storico Artistiche presso l’Università Sapienza di Roma. E’ autrice del progetto In-Between: Attraversamenti visivi, realizzato per la Notte Bianca 2005 a Roma. Dal 2006 è coordinatrice delle attività della Fondazione Baruchello. Dal 2005 fa parte dell'Associazione culturale START.
