8η Διεθνής Έκθεση Βιβλίου Θεσσαλονίκης
Ένα πολιτιστικό τετραήμερο που συναπαρτίζουν περισσότερες από 210 προσωπικότητες από τον συγγραφικό κόσμο, και ακόμη επιστήμονες, ερευνητές-φιλόλογοι, επαγγελματίες του εκδοτικού κλάδου, οι οποίοι συμμετέχουν σε οργανωμένες παρουσιάσεις βιβλίων, συζητήσεις στρογγυλής τράπεζας και παράλληλες καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις, αναθεωρούν την άποψη περί κρίσης και δηλώνουν το «παρών» απευθυνόμενοι στους χιλιάδες επισκέπτες της 8ης ΔΕΒΘ για μια διαφορετική ματιά στην τρέχουσα πραγματικότητα.

Ένα μείζον πολιτιστικό γεγονός

μ’ ένα πρόγραμμα εκδηλώσεων που αναδεικνύει τις σημαντικότερες πτυχές του σύγχρονου συγγραφικού κι εκδοτικού γίγνεσθαι

Ένα πολιτιστικό τετραήμερο που συναπαρτίζουν περισσότερες από 210 προσωπικότητες από τον συγγραφικό κόσμο, και ακόμη επιστήμονες, ερευνητές-φιλόλογοι, επαγγελματίες του εκδοτικού κλάδου, οι οποίοι συμμετέχουν σε οργανωμένες παρουσιάσεις βιβλίων, συζητήσεις στρογγυλής τράπεζας και παράλληλες καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις, αναθεωρούν την άποψη περί κρίσης και δηλώνουν το «παρών» απευθυνόμενοι στους χιλιάδες επισκέπτες της 8ης ΔΕΒΘ για μια διαφορετική ματιά στην τρέχουσα πραγματικότητα.

Η Έκθεση, που διοργανώνεται από το Εθνικό Κέντρο Βιβλίου/Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Τουρισμού, τη Helexpo και την Πανελλήνια Ομοσπονδία Εκδοτών Βιβλιοπωλών, αποτελεί κορυφαίο γεγονός με εμπορικό και πολιτιστικό χαρακτήρα για τον χώρο των εκδοτών, των δημιουργών και του βιβλιόφιλου κοινού. Δίνει προβάδισμα στην ανάδειξη του βιβλίου ως κύριου μέσου «συνομιλίας» μεταξύ γραμμάτων και τεχνών, ενώ παράλληλα διαμορφώνει ιδέες και στοιχειοθετεί απόψεις γύρω από την επικαιρότητα αλλά και τα βασικά ερωτήματα που εγείρονται για τον άνθρωπο σήμερα.

Το Εθνικό Κέντρο Βιβλίου (ΕΚΕΒΙ), σε συνεργασία με τους εκδότες, έχει σχεδιάσει ένα πλούσιο πολιτιστικό πρόγραμμα με περισσότερες από 170 εκδηλώσεις για όλες τις ηλικίες και τα γούστα. Το κοινό θα έχει την ευκαιρία να αποκτήσει μιαν άμεση και σφαιρική προσέγγιση για φλέγοντα ζητήματα του παρόντος (την πολιτική και κοινωνική κατάσταση γύρω από τη Μεσόγειο) αλλά και να διαπιστώσει πτυχές σημαντικών ζητημάτων που αφορούν την πνευματική δημιουργία και την καλλιέργεια της νεότερης γενιάς με έμφαση στις εκπαιδευτικές υποδομές του αύριο.
Το έργο είναι ενταγμένο στο Επιχειρησιακό Πρόγραμμα Μακεδονία – Θράκη 2007-2013 του ΕΣΠΑ και συγχρηματοδοτείται από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (Ευρωπαϊκό Ταμείο Περιφερειακής Ανάπτυξης – ΕΤΠΑ).

Οι συγγραφείς ενώπιον των αναγνωστών
Τις εκδηλώσεις της 8ης ΔΕΒΘ θα πλαισιώσουν 190 Έλληνες και ξένοι συγγραφείς, οι οποίοι θα δώσουν τη δική τους ξεχωριστή έμφαση στο «πώς» και το «γιατί» της σύγχρονης πολιτιστικής δημιουργίας.

Από ελληνικής πλευράς θα δηλώσουν «παρών» στο γενικό πρόγραμμα περισσότεροι από 110 Έλληνες πεζογράφοι και ποιητές ενώ 60 συγγραφείς και εικονογράφοι θα δώσουν το δικό τους στίγμα στην Παιδική Γωνιά και στη Γωνιά των Εφήβων. Ανάμεσά τους : Κώστας Ακρίβος, Θεόδωρος Γρηγοριάδης, Μάρω Δούκα, Ισίδωρος Ζουργός, Τάκης Θεοδωρόπουλος, Γιάννης Μακριδάκης, Πέτρος Μάρκαρης, Αμάντα Μιχαλοπούλου, Λένα Μαντά, Σοφία Νικολαΐδου, Γιάννης Ξανθούλης, Βασίλης Τσιαμπούσης, Γιώργος Σκαμπαρδώνης, Αλέξης Σταμάτης, Άρης Σφακιανάκης, Πέτρος Τατσόπουλος, Έλενα Χουζούρη, Χρήστος Χωμενίδης, και στην Παιδική και Εφηβική Γωνιά: Λήδα Βαρβαρούση, Αγγελική Βαρελλά, Νίκος Δαββέτας, Άρης Δημοκίδης, Σοφία Ζαραμπούκα, Βαγγέλης Ηλιόπουλος, Φίλιππος Μανδηλαράς Δημήτρης Μπασλάμ,Μαρίζα Ντεκάστρο, Μαρία Ρουσοχατζάκη, Λότη Πέτροβιτς-Ανδρουτσοπούλου, Έρη Ρίτσου, Λίτσα Ψαραύτη και Ευγένιος Τριβιζάς.

Από το εξωτερικό θα παραβρεθούν 18 σημαντικές προσωπικότητες της λογοτεχνίας από 9 χώρες της Μέσης Ανατολής, μεταξύ των οποίων οι «διεθνείς» Ταρίκ Αλι, Νταβίντ Γκρόσμαν και Γκαμάλ Γιτάνι καθώς και:
- Από την Αγγλία, ο Richard Stoneman θα παρουσιάσει το βιβλίο του «Αλέξανδρος ο Μέγας» που μόλις κυκλοφόρησε από τις εκδόσεις Τόπος.
- Από την Ελβετία, ο δημοσιογράφος και συγγραφέας Nickolas Verdan θα παρουσιάσει το βιβλίο του «Le rendez-vous de Thessalonique» (Ραντεβού στη Θεσσαλονίκη) (εκδόσεις Χαραμάδα).
- Από την Ιταλία, οι συγγραφείς Paolo Maranca και Raffaella Narni θα παρουσιάσουν «Τα μυστήρια του Χρόνου» (Ellenico) (σε συνεργασία με το Ιταλικό Μορφωτικό Ινστιτούτο).
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι ο γνωστός φιλέλληνας εκδότης Nicola Crocetti θα παρουσιάσει μαζί με τον φιλόλογο-διδάσκοντα του ΑΠΘ Δημήτρη Κόκορη την έκδοση «Poeti greci del Novecento» (Έλληνες ποιητές του Εικοστού) (σε συνεργασία με το Ιταλικό Μορφωτικό Ινστιτούτο).
- Από τη Σερβία, ο Bajac Vladislav θα μιλήσει για το βιβλίο του «Χαμάμ Βαλκάνια» μαζί με τον συγγραφέα και πρόεδρο Δ.Σ. του ΕΚΕΒΙ Τάκη Θεοδωρόπουλο και τη συγγραφέα Έλενα Χουζούρη (εκδόσεις Κέδρος).


Πολυάριθμες εκδηλώσεις θα πραγματοποιηθούν καθημερινά κατά τις ώρες λειτουργίας της Έκθεσης συνθέτοντας ένα τετραήμερο φεστιβάλ με πρωταγωνιστή το βιβλίο.

- Η Γωνιά των Περιοδικών
- Η Γωνιά των Νέων Τεχνολογιών
- «Περίπατος Πολιτισμού» με τον δήμο Θεσσαλονίκης

With an agenda of events that promotes the most important aspects of the modern writing and publishing landscape


A four days long cultural event that hosts more than 210 personalities from the writers’ world and moreover scientists, researchers-pholologists, professionals of the publishing sector, who take part in scheduled book presentations, round table discussions and parallel artistic events, who review the current opinions about the crisis and state their presence by addressing the thousands of visitors in the 8th IBFT and by offering them a different view of actuality.

The Fair, which is organized by the National Book Center of Greece / Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Helexpo and the Hellenic Federation of Publishers and Booksellers, constitutes a top-ranking event of commercial and cultural character for the sector of publishers, creators and book lovers. It marks the promotion of the book as the main vehicle of “communication” between the letters and the arts, while at the same time it shapes ideas and composes opinions about the current issues and the basic questions that rise for people today.

The National Book Center of Greece (EKEBI) in collaboration with the publishers has planned a rich cultural program with more than 170 events for all ages and tastes. The visitors shall have the opportunity to reach an immediate and global approach to major current matters (the political and social situation around the Mediterranean) and also to assess aspects of significant factors that regard the intellectual creation and culture of the new generation focusing on the training infrastructures of tomorrow.

The project is included in the Operational Program Macedonia – Thrace 2007-2013 of ESPA and is co-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ETPA)

The writers before the readers
190 Greek and foreign writers shall invigorate the 8th TBF events and shall give their own special emphasis on the “how” and “why” of the modern cultural creation.

From the Greek side more than 110 Greek prose writers and poets shall be present in the general program while 60 writers and illustrators shall give their own mark at the Children’s Corner and the Teenagers’ Corner. Among them: Kostas Akrivos, Theodoros Grigoriadis, Maro Douka, Isidoros Zourgos, Takis Theodoropoulos, Giannis Makridakis, Petros Markaris, Amanda Mihalopoulou, Lena Manta, Sofia Nikolaidou, Giannis Xanthoulis, Vasilis Tsiabousis, Giorgos Skampardonis, Alexis Stamatis, Aris Sfakianakis, Petros Tatsopoulos, Elena Houzouri, Hristos Homenidis and at the Children’s and Teenagers’ Corner: Leda Varvarousi, Aggeliki Varella, Nikos Davvetas, Aris Dimokidis, Sofia Zarambouka, Vaggelis Iliopoulos, Filippos Mandilaras, Dimitris Baslam, Mariza Dekastro, Maria Rousohatzaki, Loti Petrovic-Androutsopoulou, Eri Ritsou, Litsa Psarafti and Evgenios Trivizas.

18 important literature personalities from abroad shall attend the events representing 9 countries of the Middle East, among whom the “international” Tariq Ali, David Grossman and Gamal Gitani (see below the detailed agenda for the Middle East) as well as:
- From England Richard Stoneman shall present his book “Alexander the Great” that has been just published by Topos Publications;
- From Switzerland the journalist and writer Nickolas Verdan shall present his book «Le rendez-vous de Thessalonique» (Haramada Editions);
- From Italy the writers Paolo Maranca and Raffaella Narni shall present “The Mysteris of Time” (Ellenico) (in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute).
It is worth noting that the well known philhellene publisher Nicola Crocetti shall present together with the philologist-professor at the University of Thessaloniki Dimitros Kokoris the edition «Poeti greci del Novecento» (Greek poets of the Twentieth) (in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute).
- From Serbia Bajac Vladislav shall speak about his book “Hamam Balcans” together with the writer and President of the Board of Directors of EKEBI Takis Theodoropoulos and the writer Elena Houzouri (Kedros Editions).

Theme exhibition and international conference on the book and modern education
The subject of the theme exhibition, and a “friction” point for the participants in the international conference, titled “Book and Education; what should change?” (which is organized with the participation of Greek, French, Italian, Norwegian and Finnish expert scientists) is the perspective of the educational system in terms of the contribution of the book, with regard to the modern needs of primary and secondary education and also in correlation with the practice in other European countries, the capabilities of digitization and of the Internet and the programs to promote reading in younger ages. 30 Greek experts as well as foreign personalities in this field shall take part.

In the thematic exhibition stand (pavilion 13) an exhibition of educational books shall operate (approximately 500 titles) as well as two visual art exhibitions that look at the past and “narrate” the history of Greek school.

- Exhibition of old primers from the 19th and 20th century
Old primers of the 19th and 20th century from the collection of the Institute of New Greek Studies – Manolis Triantafyllidis Foundation shall be exhibited and old books shall be scanned and projected on a large screen.

- Photography exhibition from the Benaki Museum
The theme exhibition stand shall also host the photographic exhibition by Voula Papaioannou and by Dimitris Harisiadis, who both focus their lens at schools of the Greek territory in earlier times.
In the same framework two workshops have been organized (correct spelling workshop by the Center for the Greek Language and Manolis Triantafyllidis Foundation and presentation of the scheduled digital format of Ancient and Modern Greek by the Center for the Greek Language).

At the theme exhibition stand also the Educators and Parents’ Corner shall operate, where a parallel rich program of events shall take place, organized by the publishers.

A festival for Middle East and Maghreb Literature
Writers and intellectuals from 9 countris shall offer their penetrating view into the reality that is being formed in the broader Mediterranean world due to the military, political and social developments of this current period. Common axis shall be cultural creation ideas and their literary expression. In the 8th TBF the following personalities shall be present: Tariq Ali (Pakistan, UK), Salwa Al Neimi (Syria), Yohannes Gebregeorgis (Ethiopia), Gamal Gatani (Egypt), David Grossman (Israel), Deniz Kavukçuoğlu (Turkey), Tuna Kiremitci (Turkey), Honda Barakat (Lebanon), Sophie Bessis (Tunisia), Boualem Sansal (Algeria), Malek Shebel (Algeria), Baha Taher (Egypt) and Subhi Hadidi (Syria).
The tribute to the Middle East and Maghreb countries is incorporated in the program “Thessaloniki – A Crossroad of Civilizations” of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Children and Teenagers’Corner: the “reference point” in the exhibition hall
Thousands of pupils from 30 schools from Thessaloniki and the neighboring prefectures shall attend the traditional Children’s Corner and also the Teenagers’ Corner (which was organized last year for the first time) that shall host numerous events (62 and 14 respectively) with the aim to promote love for reading and cultivate education in general for the younger generations. The participant writers, illustrators and speakers are more than 60 while the organized visits are expected to amount to 1,300 students.

The agenda of the Teenagers’ Corner has been planned in collaboration with the chain of bookstores IANOS, and provides for graffiti and rap music workshops, for lectures, presentations of subjects that are related to the interests of secondary education pupils.

In the Children’s Corner the young book lovers shall also have the opportunity to meet and navigate the electronic pages of the Young Reader (mikrosanagnostis) (the first EKEBI portal for children). They shall also find a) The wall of illustrators (with works by illustrators that collaborated with the children during the 4th Fair of Children’s and Teenagers’ Book); b) The stand of the Circle of the Greek Children’s Book (Greek IBBY) (with the IBBY poster on the International Children’s Book Day, which shall be distributed, and with the promotion of Hristos Boulotis – Efi Lada’s candidature for this years International Andersen Award); c) The illustration exhibition “Speak, don’t be afraid” by the writer – illustrator Riita Otittinen in collaboration with the Association for the Psychosocial Health of Child and Teenager. Furthermore, they shall have the opportunity to particpate in the contest for 6-12 years old children “If I were an illustrator …” where the most original ideas shall be awarded and shall be published on the EKEBI webpage.

Parallel events during the four-day Fair
The agenda of the parallel events includes the following:

- “Odysseas Elytis” Stand (on the occasion of the 100 years from his birth)
The special tribute for the poet includes a stand with an extended exhibition with details from his life and work, photographic and archive material for his life and work. The stand shall also host an exhibition of books that shall include, apart from works by the poet, also their translations, and books that have been written on the life and work of the Nobel prize winner poet and also, in especially arranged corners, audiovisual material.

- The magazines Corner
The magazines for Language and Thought, printed and electronic ones, find also their place in the Fair. The most recent issues of the printed magazines are presented in beautiful show cases while a large screen with internet access is foreseen for the electronic magazines, so that the visitors may navigate their pages. Older issues of the magazines shall be offered for free during the four day Fair. Moreover a debate shall be held on magazines and the new digital environment.

- The Corner of New Technologies
The most recent electronic reading devices (e-books) shall be presented, which captured the interest of the visitors during their first appearance last year. Moreover, during the whole Fair the ITisART Stand shall give the opportunity to both young and older friends to learn how to become the creators of their own comics by exploiting the interactive technologies and their imagination and creativity.
Myebooks organizes a round table titled: «DRM Protection: The safe way for ebooks project» with speakers: Michael Dudley, Sales Manager of ADOBE Corporation, Paul Balogh, Technical Manager of Humanitas Books, Nikos Pashalakis, myebooks digital bookstore, Haris Psichogios, Psichogios Editions.
Moreover a debate shall be organized in the framework of the international conference “Book, Education and Digitization” as well as, as already mentioned, a discussion on the magazines in the new digital environment.


- «Cultural Walk» with the municipality of Thessaloniki
A cultural journey that connects the Thessaloniki Town Hall with three emblematic museums of the city, the Archaeological, the Byzantine and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and terminates at the Thessaloniki Book Fair area (the HELEXPO buildings) invites the visitors to literary and visual arts walks during the four days of the Fair. This is organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki / Aldermanship of Culture, Education and Tourism in the framework of TBF. In addition, the building of the Town Hall shall host the photography exhibition «theSOULoniki loves to read» that presents 50 Greek and foreign writers in pop style portraits (100 cm X 100 cm). On the Fair’s opening night (Thursday 5 May) at the yard of the Town Hall an open street party with Greek writers in the role of djs invites all book lovers of the city to participate in this major feast of books.
