Gender Bender is an international Festival dedicated to introducing the Italian public to the new imagery related to gender identity, sexual orientation and body representation stemming from contemporary culture.
Gender Bender is an international Festival dedicated to introducing the Italian public to the new imagery related to gender identity, sexual orientation and body representation stemming from contemporary culture.
Gender bender offers a series of events ranging from film showings, to theatrical productions and dance performances, visual arts exhibitions, installation, round tables and conferences, live concerts and performances by musicians and djs, and clubbing events.
The festival takes place annually in Bologna, Italy, since 2003, and is produced by Il Cassero, gay lesbian center, in collaboration with the GAM/Modern Art Gallery of Bologna, the Bologna Film Library, and the Music and Drama Department of Bologna University, whose venues host specific parts of the program.
TOP OF THE POP! Gender Bender 8th edition is dedicated to pop music icons that - starting from Elvis Presley - has had a deep influence on cultural and sexual imagery during last sixty years.
The strong symbolic value of Popstar is the main key to rebuild - using images and music - a social history of our contemporary identity.

Gender Bender č il festival internazionale che presenta al pubblico italiano gli immaginari prodotti dalla cultura contemporanea, legati alle nuove rappresentazioni del corpo, delle identitā di genere e di orientamento sessuale.
Il Festival č interdisciplinare e propone un programma di appuntamenti che si articola in proiezioni cinematografiche, spettacoli di danza e teatro, performance, mostre e installazioni di arti visive, incontri e convegni di letteratura, concerti e live set di musicisti e dj, party notturni.
Realizza percorsi di senso inediti tra fenomeni culturali e comunicativi apparentemente lontani e contraddittori, indicando come sia possibile andare in maniera creativa oltre le norme e gli stereotipi del maschile e del femminile, e anticipando le trasformazioni divenute parte integrante del nostro immaginario.
