O Festival de Cannes celebra o cinema há mais de 60 anos. Ao longo dos anos, a Associação Francesa do Festival Internacional do Filme soube evoluir mantendo, porém, o essencial: a paixão pelo cinema, a descoberta de novos talentos, o entusiasmo dos participantes do festival e dos profissionais de todo o mundo que contribuem para a criação e a difusão dos filmes. O Festival de Cannes foi sempre o reflexo da sua época: o local de todas as culturas, de todas as esperanças, de uma forte efervescência e, principalmente, da transmissão. Defender projectos ambiciosos, diferentes e dar aos futuros cineastas a possibilidade de emergirem. Uma vitrina de talentos e o respeito de todos os gostos.
Como todos os anos, o calendário do Festival foi iniciado em Janeiro com o anúncio do Presidente do júri. Tim Burton ! A notícia, recebida unanimemente com entusiasmo, deixou o mundo do cinema de bom humor. Escolher Tim Burton para presidir a próxima edição do Festival, é efectivamente colocá-la sob o signo alegre da fantasia e da imaginação, o que deverá combinar-se bem com os dez dias de uma manifestação, onde – sabemos bem – tudo pode acontecer. Ao pedir a este cineasta visionário para nos acompanhar em 2010, Gilles Jacob e eu desejamos também reafirmar simbolicamente o nosso desejo de continuar a encorajar o futuro. Neste período de intensa preparação, devemos estar sempre atentos ao que se inventa, e sem ceder à vertigem das imagens e das novas tecnologias, saber distinguir as inovações que estarão ao serviço da identidade do Festival para fazê-lo evoluir harmoniosamente entre criação e indústria. O futuro do cinema também e sobretudo. A produção está bem, cada ano o número de filmes que nos chega aumenta. No coração deste crescimento, desta diversidade, devemos ter o cuidado de preservar a nossa sensibilidade para o que nasce, o que se move, o que promete, em todo o mundo. Tim Burton, a meio caminho entre o cinema de autor, o cinema popular e o cinema de género, soube encontrar o seu lugar no mapa cinematográfico. São todos esses aspectos, assim o esperamos, que irão compor o relevo da Selecção 2010 para que os artistas, os profissionais, os jornalistas e os cinéfilos que fazem o Festival guardem intactos o seu ânimo de descoberta e o seu desejo para, como disse de forma tão graciosa o nosso Presidente do júri, os «filmes que batem à porta dos nossos sonhos». The Festival de Cannes has celebrated the cinema for more than 60 years. Over the years, the French Association of the International Film Festival has been able to evolve whilst retaining the essential: the passion for motion pictures, discovery of new talents, and enthusiasm of festival-goers and professionals from around the world, all contributing to the birth and distribution of films. The Festival de Cannes has always been the reflection of its era: a centre for all cultures and hopes, a spring of effervescence and, above all, transmission. Defining ambitious and different projects, giving the possibility to budding filmmakers to emerge. A showcase of talents with respect of all tastes.
Like every year, a peak of the Festival’s schedule was given with the announcement of the head of the jury, Tim Burton! The news, which was unanimously greeted with enthusiasm, put the world of film in a good mood. The choice of Tim Burton to head the next edition of the Festival brings with it a touch of his wonderful fantasy and imagination, which should perfectly suit this ten-day event, where as we all know, anything can happen. By asking this visionary cinematographer to lend his support to us in 2010, Gilles Jacob and I also wished to symbolically reiterate our will to continue to encourage the future. In these times, where intense preparation is going on, we must constantly be on the lookout for new things that are being invented, and without giving in to dizzying pictures and new technologies, we must be able to identify the innovations that will bolster the Festival’s identity so that it evolves harmoniously between creation and industry. Also, and especially, the future of the film industry. Production is doing well, and each year the number of films that are sent to us rises. At the heart of this growth, this diversity, we must make sure we preserve our sensitivity to what is being created, what is happening, what is promising, all around the world. Tim Burton, who stands mid-way between cinéma d’auteur (art-house cinema), popular cinema and genre films, has been able to carve out his own place on the cinematographic landscape. We hope that all of this will contribute to creating the 2010 Selection panorama in a way that keeps intact artists’, professionals’, journalists’ and film buffs’ desires to discover, and their wish for ‘films that knock on the doors of our dreams’, as the head of our jury so beautifully said. Le Festival de Cannes célèbre le cinéma depuis plus de 60 ans. Au fil des années, L'Association Française du Festival International du Film a su évoluer tout en gardant l’essentiel : la passion du cinéma, la découverte de nouveaux talents, l’enthousiasme des festivaliers et des professionnels du monde entier venant contribuer à la naissance et à la diffusion des films. Le Festival de Cannes a toujours été le reflet de son époque : le lieu de toutes les cultures, de tous les espoirs, d’une forte effervescence et surtout, de la transmission. Défendre des projets ambitieux, différents, donner la possibilité à des cinéastes en herbe d’émerger. Une vitrine de talents et le respect de tous les goûts.
Comme chaque année, le calendrier du Festival s’est ouvert en janvier avec l’annonce du Président du Jury. Tim Burton ! La nouvelle, unanimement accueillie avec enthousiasme, a mis la planète cinéma de bonne humeur. Choisir Tim Burton pour présider la prochaine édition du Festival, c’est en effet la placer sous l’enseigne joyeuse de la fantaisie et de l’imagination, ce qui devrait bien s’accorder avec les dix jours d’une manifestation où –on le sait- tout peut arriver. En demandant à ce cinéaste visionnaire de nous accompagner en 2010, Gilles Jacob et moi-même souhaitions aussi réaffirmer symboliquement notre volonté de continuer d’encourager l’avenir. L'avenir du Festival, en étant sans cesse à l’affut de ce qui s’invente et, sans céder au vertige des images et des nouvelles technologies, en sachant discerner les innovations qui serviront son identité pour le faire évoluer harmonieusement entre création et industrie. L’avenir du cinéma aussi et surtout. La production se porte bien, chaque année le nombre de films qui nous arrive augmente. Au cœur de cette croissance, de cette diversité, il nous faut être attentif à préserver notre sensibilité pour ce qui naît, ce qui bouge, ce qui promet, partout dans le monde. Tim Burton, à mi chemin entre le cinéma d’auteur, le cinéma populaire et le cinéma de genre, a su trouver sa place sur la carte cinématographique. Ce sont tous ces aspects qui, nous l’espérons, composeront le relief de la Sélection 2010 afin que les artistes, les professionnels, les journalistes et les cinéphiles qui font le Festival gardent intacts leur envie de découverte et leur désir pour, comme l’a si joliment dit notre Président du jury, les « films qui frappent à la porte de nos rêves ». Con el transcurso de los años, la Asociación Francesa del Festival Internacional del Cine ha sabido evolucionar y a la vez conservar su esencia: la pasión por el cine, el descubrimiento de nuevos talentos, el entusiasmo de los aficionados al festival y de los profesionales de todo el mundo que acuden para contribuir al nacimiento y la difusión de las películas. El Festival de Cannes ha sido siempre el reflejo de su época: el punto de encuentro de todas las culturas, de todas las esperanzas, de una notable efervescencia y, sobre todo, de la transmisión. Defender proyectos ambiciosos, diferentes, ofrecer la posibilidad darse a conocer a cineastas en ciernes. Un escaparate de talentos y el respeto por todos los gustos.
Como cada año, el calendario del Festival se inauguró en enero con el anuncio del Presidente del Jurado. ¡Tim Burton! La noticia, recibida unánimemente con entusiasmo, puso al mundo del cine de buen humor. Escoger a Tim Burton para presidir la próxima edición del Festival, es colocarla definitivamente bajo la bandera alegre de la fantasía y la imaginación, lo que debería encajar bien con los diez días de un certamen en el que, como sabemos, todo puede suceder. Al pedirle a este cineasta visionario que nos acompañe en 2010, Gilles Jacob y yo también deseamos reafirmar simbólicamente nuestra voluntad de continuar promoviendo el futuro. En este periodo de intensa preparación, hay que mantenerse constantemente al día de lo que se inventa y, sin ceder al vértigo de las imágenes y de las nuevas tecnologías, saber discernir las innovaciones que serán útiles a la identidad del Festival para hacerlo progresar armoniosamente entre creación e industria. Y, también y sobre todo, al futuro del cine. La producción mantiene un buen nivel, puesto que el número de películas que nos llega aumenta cada año. En el centro de este crecimiento, de esta diversidad, debemos permanecer atentos para conservar nuestra sensibilidad por aquello que nace, que se mueve, que promete, en cualquier parte del mundo. Tim Burton, a medio camino entre el cine de autor, el cine popular y el cine de género, ha sabido encontrar su lugar en el mapa cinematográfico. Son todos estos aspectos los que, confiamos, conformarán el relieve de la Selección 2010, para que los artistas, profesionales, periodistas y cinéfilos que forman el Festival conserven intactas sus ganas de descubrir y su deseo por las "películas que llaman a la puerta de nuestros sueños”, como expresó tan poéticamente nuestro Presidente del jurado.
