An exhibition curated by Diego Esposito and promoted by the Department for Culture of the Naples City Council. At the same time these works will be showed also during the Shanghai World Expo 2010. This exhibition presents two groups of videos by Celesta Bufano, Federico Campanale, Christian Costa, Anna Fusco and Antonella Raio. The first group includes 24 one-minute-long videos each one focused on a specific hour and place in the city of Naples. The goal is to represent the 24 hours of the day from the different perspectives of various places in the city. This cycle of videos is part of the Amsterdam's "Sandberg" Fine Arts Institute City One Minutes project. For the first time since 1998 the city of Naples is selected for their on-line project, which will be presented at the World Expo in China in the C1M Europe section. The second group presents longer videos made for this exhibition. The artists looked into the Naples cultural, folkloristic, social and landscape identity showing its beauty and its conflicts. From the catalog published by arte'm: During the last years Christian Costa focused on the collective imagination connected to the idea of city - in particular Neapolitan Eastern peripheries - working with projects such as N.EST, Spazi Docili [Docile Spaces] or Progetto Isole. In Neapolis est #002 - Port the blue, red and white constantly running huge port cranes show us the efficiency of the area, even during the night hours, while on the contrary in Neapolis est #003 the buildings of the former Corradini plant at Vigliena, abandoned to decay, reveal the silent inactivity of a post-industrial "cathedral" deprived of any function by now. Crambling buildings which could remind us of their identity only through the memories of past times. Neapolis est #001, instead, looks into the abstract rationality of the Business District architecture, shot in a way to let us guess only a thin strip of sky between buildings far away one from another but nevertheless looming on us. In all these videos the soundtrack has different content in each of the two stereo channels to express this conflict between civilization and alienation, nature and decay. Vigliena über alles, 2010, video HD, 4 min The new work is based on the idea of contradiction. I believe that a place such as Naples could be better represented through the leap of logic, the symbolic sign, the misunderstanding rather than stating a point of view which will always turn out to be inadequate and partial. The disaster of the Neapolitan peripheries, the form of the sacred, the revealing formless.
