HONEYCOMB PRESS RELEASE
PROJECT NAME : GOOD THINGS Series 1 : LOVE
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : Love surrounds us.
It has been around since the beginning of time and has served as inspiration for some of the most beautiful creations in existence. It is a force all its own with the power to change the world if we choose to embrace it.
It is because of this universal truth that HONEYCOMB has chosen the subject of LOVE to usher in the first installment of their annual project entitled "Good Things".
This project will be re-imagined every year with a different "good thing" at its core, and as with all HONEYCOMB endeavors, is aimed at spreading positivity in a time when it is most needed while also raising funds for contemporary art and environmental conservation.
For the premiere edition of "Good Things", HONEYCOMB has selected an internationally esteemed group of sixteen urban and contemporary artists from their collective members. These artists have been given the task of interpreting the theme of LOVE in their own way and producing a piece of original artwork for the project. The finished pieces have been used in the design and production of a very special series of limited edition t-shirts. Each design will be released in a numbered edition of 100 and will be sold for fifty - five dollars exclusively through HONEYCOMB. The pieces will be available for pre-order through the HONEYCOMB website beginning January 31, 2010 and will be officially launched on February 7, 2010.
For EACH shirt that is sold, fifty square meters of deforested land will be purchased, regenerated, and protected through the ongoing reforestation efforts of our charity partner, WILD AGAIN. This small amount of reforested land will, in time, be able to absorb about 50kg. of Carbon Dioxide per year, provide homes to approximately 50 birds and other animals displaced through deforestation, and protect against flooding, erosion and desertification.
Clearly there is much work to be done in terms of restoring and maintaining our environment, and the purchase of one shirt will not solve all the problems of the world, but it is certainly a step in the right direction and a nice way for socially conscious individuals to contribute to the cause and promote contemporary art, while reminding themselves and others of the importance of loving ourselves, our planet and each other.
