Black International Cinema Berlin

Black International Cinema Berlin is a yearly interdisciplinary, intercultural film/video festival produced and directed by Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre / THE COLLEGIUM - Forum & Television Program Berlin in association with Cultural Zephyr e.V. and, screens cinema from the African Diaspora and other films from varied intercultural backgrounds or perspectives.
Black International Cinema Berlin originated from the Black Cultural Festival, which was produced and directed by Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre in 1986 for the first time in Europe, a 3-week event in Berlin, which presented the contributions of Black people to world culture through film, theater, dance, music, workshops and seminars, and was an homage to the legendary tap dancer, Carnell Lyons.
The venues were the Theatermanufaktur am Halleschen Ufer from March 3-16, music – dance – theatre; Hochschule der Künste Berlin on March 11, symposium; Kino Arsenal from March 17-23, film.

Since then, Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre produces and directs the Black International Cinema each year in Berlin and additionally, in other European and US-American cities.
The festival focuses on presenting works of an artistic, cultural or political nature coinciding with the general educational, social, artistic and economic interest of people from Africa, the African Diaspora and people with an interest in participating in intercultural communication and the resultant interfacing and sharing of educational, social, artistic and economic resources. Furthermore, Black International Cinema is open to ALL filmmakers and contributes to better understanding and increasing cooperation between people from various cultural, ethnic, national and religious backgrounds, in order to reduce prejudices and support a peaceful and respectful living together in our multi-faceted society.

Das Black International Cinema Berlin zeigt Filme aus der afrikanischen Diaspora und solche, die sich mit verschiedenen interkulturellen Hintergründen und Perspektiven befassen.
Black International Cinema Berlin ging hervor aus dem von Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre 1986 erstmals in Europa produzierten Black Cultural Festival, eine dreiwöchige Veranstaltung in Berlin, die durch Film, Theater, Tanz, Musik, Workshops und Seminare die Beiträge schwarzer Menschen zur Weltkultur präsentierte und eine Hommage an den legendären Steptänzer Carnell Lyons war.
Die Veranstaltungsorte waren die Theatermanufaktur am Halleschen Ufer vom 3.-16. März, Musik – Tanz – Theater; die Hochschule der Künste Berlin am 11. März, Symposium; das Kino Arsenal vom 17.-23. März, Film.

From May 7-10, 2009 Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre under the direction of Prof. Donald Muldrow Griffith and Prof. Gayle McKinney Griffith, present the interdisciplinary and intercultural film/video festival Black International Cinema Berlin for the 24th year. For the first time, the festival will guest at the Rathaus Schöneberg (city hall) and be presented in cooperation with the Commissioner for Integration of the district Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Berlin, Gabriele Gün Tank.

Under the theme "A COMPLEXION CHANGE - International & Intercultural Diplomacy”, films from Africa, the African Diaspora and films with an intercultural perspective are the focus..
Approximately 60 productions will be screened, among them cinematic works from Cape Verde, Benin, France, USA, Iran, India, Togo, Senegal, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, Colombia, Spain, Nicaragua, Switzerland and Madagascar. In addition, film discussions, performances and seminars will be conducted.

Vom 7.-10. Mai 2009 präsentiert Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre unter der Leitung von Prof. Donald Muldrow Griffith und Prof. Gayle McKinney Griffith die 24. Ausgabe des interdisziplinären und interkulturellen Film-/Videofestivals Black International Cinema Berlin, erstmals im Rathaus Schöneberg.. Die Veranstaltung findet in Kooperation mit der Integrationsbeauftragten des Bezirks Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Frau Gabriele Gün Tank, statt.

Unter dem Thema "A COMPLEXION CHANGE – International & Intercultural Diplomacy" stehen Filme aus Afrika, der afrikanischen Diaspora und Filme, die sich mit interkulturellen Perspektiven befassen, im Mittelpunkt.
Bis zu 60 Beiträge stehen auf dem Programm, darunter Produktionen aus den Kapverden, Benin, Frankreich, den USA, Iran, Indien, Togo, Senegal, Belgien, Deutschland, Großbritannien, Kolumbien, Spanien, Nicaragua, der Schweiz und Madagaskar. Dazu finden Filmgespräche, Diskussionen, Performances und Seminare statt.
