Omvat o.a. het programma Where is Africa?

Shorts

Lesser-Used Languages: Nederlands - Dutch

The International Film Festival Rotterdam offers a quality selection of worldwide independent, innovative and experimental cinema and visual arts. Devoted to offering a platform to and actively supporting independent filmmaking from around the globe, the International Film Festival Rotterdam is the essential hub for discovering film talent and for catching the early buzz on many world and international premieres.

During twelve festival days, hundreds of filmmakers and other artists present their work to a large and devoted audience (341,000 admissions in 2009) in 24 screening venues located within central Rotterdam. Up to 3,000 press and film industry representatives visit the festival to report on its buzz or to take part in CineMart, the largest co-production market for film projects.

The 39th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam takes place from Wednesday, 27 January through Sunday, 7 February 2010.

Within the festival, CineMart takes place on 31 January - 3 February, 2010.

Sections and Events 2010
BRIGHT FUTURE
Bright Future is the platform for filmmakers of the future. Here, the festival presents the most important, idiosyncratic and adventurous new work by novice makers from all over the world. The section mainly consists of first or second films. The competitive part of the festival, the VPRO Tiger Awards Competition for first and second features and the Tiger Awards Competition for Short Films , is part of this section.

SPECTRUM
Spectrum comprises work by experienced film makers and artists who provide, in the opinion of the IFFR, an essential contribution to international film culture. Spectrum brings together highlights of the film year, new work by prominent auteurs and topical, strong and innovative films by accomplished filmmakers. Closely linked to Bright Future, Spectrum sets a high-quality standard in substance and style.

SPECTRUM: SHORTS
Previous editions of the festival featured the special shorts programme Short: As Long As It Takes. In this year's format, most short films are featured in Spectrum.
