Born in Leiden in 1969, he grew up in Rotterdam-Delfshaven, since 2008 living and working in a little village Nieuwleusen, Holland

Pieter Zandvliet has a passion for drawing. Every day, from his third year, he drew figures from his environment and he actually still does. It now becomes his diaries. Behind each picture lies a story.
He often feels like a machine that is driven by an obsessive urge to draw.

Drawing is for him a processing thing. Images, shapes, sounds, smells, emotions, moments he intrusted it as quickly as possible to the paper.
He can not tell if he always likes it. He does it at any time of day, when the need arises. Piles and piles are stored in cabinets, folders are bulging.Sometimes he makes a selection for his paintings, but most of them are still laying in the closet.

Yet we find in him a fascination for headings. Is not surprising, he grew up in the centre of Rotterdam. An international port and a lot of people from all world seeking their luck or at least a job. The multicultural edge of the city earned him a wealth of diversity of views and attitudes, intentionally and unintentionally.
